内容摘要:In order to support wellness of aging and aged adults, as well as to minimize elder-care costs for their families, we must shift the current burden of elder care from one that is exclusively carried out by informal or family caregivers, to one that includes the use of technology. Fortunately, technologies in areas such as sensing, communications, data mining, privacy protection, and user interfaces, have recently made great advances. It is thus time to harvest these technologies to realize the vision shared by most elder adults, that of aging in place.
In this talk, we introduce WellMon, a holistic wellness monitoring solution for old people through a set of unobtrusive methods. First, we will focus on the architectural design for large-scale, general-purpose sensing systems -- WellMon's carefully designed layered system architecture facilitates system agility and organic growth. Second, we will focus on a few case studies of wellbeing monitoring, including their heartbeats and gaits, as well as their social wellbeing.
