State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials (Donghua University)
Application Notification of 2026
Visiting Scholar Fund
Since its foundation in 1992, State Key Laboratory of Advanced FiberMaterials (SKLAFM) has successfully passednational evaluations in 2003, 2008, and 2013. In the fourth national assessmentin 2018, it was awarded the title of “Excellent National KeyLaboratory”. Guided by the policy of “Openness, Mobility, Cooperation, Competition”, SKLAFM has made significant achievements in multiple fields over theyears, including attracting disciplinary talents, promoting scientific researchdevelopment, constructing research platforms, and expanding academic exchanges.
In order topromote domestic and international academic communication and cooperation, introduce high-level talents in various forms, improve the academic researchlevel and teaching level of SKLAFM, and strengthen the role of high-leveldiscipline construction and high-level innovative talent cultivation, the VisitingScholar Fund is set according to the pertinent regulations of Ministry ofEducation “Opinions on the implementationof the visiting scholar system in the State Key Laboratory of Higher Educationand the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education”, “The Administrative Regulations for Special Funds for Visiting Scholarsin the State Key Laboratory of Colleges and the Key Laboratory of KeyLaboratory of the Ministry of Education” and “The Administrative Regulations for the Construction of State KeyLaboratories”,StateEducation Commission “The AdministrativeRegulations for Open Labs in Colleges and Universities”. Domestic andinternational researchers are cordially invited to apply for the VisitingScholar Fund, and joint applications with SKLAFM researchers are stronglyencouraged. The Academic Committee of SKLAFM will select visiting Scholar basedon the principles of “fair competition, scientific peer review, and merit-basedsupport.”
The guidelines for 2026 annual VisitingScholar Fund are released as follows:
I. Main research fields of the visiting scholar supportedby SKLAFM:
1) High-performance fibers and composite. Facing the criticalnational needs, we specialize in advancing large-scale industrial productiontechnologies and developing innovative material systems for three keycategories of high-performance fibers: High-performance carbon fibers(including T-series and MJ-series); Organic high-performance fibers (such aspolyimide fibers, aramid fibers, liquid crystal polyarylester fibers, andultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers); Inorganic high-performancefibers (including ceramic fibers, basalt fibers, and alumina fibers). Theresearch covers the entire value chain, from raw material preparation andspinning processes to composite applications in vital sectors like nationaldefense, aerospace, transportation equipment, and extreme environmentexploration.
2)Functional fibers and green manufacturing. Facing thepressing needs of economic development, we focus on driving the high-valuetransformation and green upgrading of the traditional chemical fiber industry. Theefforts center on developing non-petrochemical raw materials (such as recycledwaste chemical fibers and bio-based/bio-derived feedstocks) alongsideinnovative process technologies (including green wet/dry spinning solvents, melt spinning and direct melt spinning, and intelligent production linedesign). Additionally, we advance material functionalization (antibacterial,flame-retardant, and selective permeability properties, excluding energyconversion) and explore high-value-added applications in fields like biomedicalengineering and environmental purification.
3)Intelligent fibers and cutting-edge applications. Facing theforefront of global technological innovation, we focus on developingnext-generation intelligent fiber materials that will drive future industrialadvancements. The research encompasses functional fibers for converting energyforms, including semiconductor fibers, energy storage and conversion fibers, catalytic fibers, and sensing fibers capable of transforming energy forms suchas photoelectric and magnetic energy. Simultaneously, we explore novel fibermanufacturing technologies, including innovative monomers, catalysts, andadditives, as well as advanced polymerization methods and AI-driven materialdesign paradigms.
II. Funding objects and principles:
There are twotypes of visiting scholars in SKLAFM: scholars from abroad and scholars withinthe domestic rather than the school. The working hours of overseas visitingscholars in SKLAFM shall not be less than 2 months in principle, and theworking hours of domestic and non-local visiting scholars in SKLAFM shall notbe less than 4 months in principle.
Funding principles:
1.Each project can be supported 50,000 to 100,000RMB and usually lasts two years.
2.The research topic needs to be related to theresearch direction of SKLAFM, and it is encouraged to combine with the relevantresearch groups of SKLAFM.
3.Encourage interdisciplinaryand complementary research with SKLAFM.
III. Application
1. 1.The applicant shall complete “The Visiting Scholar Fund ApplicationForm of State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials (Donghua University)” induplicate, bearing the signatures of the applicant and institutionalrepresentative and the official institutional seal.
