主讲人简介:Minghe Sun is a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He received his Ph.D. in
Management Science and Information Technology from the University of Georgia in 1992, his MBA from
the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1987 and his BS in Metallurgy from Northeastern University
in China in 1982.Professor Sun’s work has appeared in almost all major journals in Management
Science/Operations Research/Decision Sciences. He received the prestigious Decision Sciences Institute Elwood S. Buffa Doctoral
Dissertation Competition Award in 1993 and the Decision Sciences Institute Best Theoretical/Empirical
Research Paper Award twice, once in 2003 and once in 2006. He also received the University of Texas
System Chancellor’s Council Outstanding Teaching Award in 1999. Professor Sun currently serves as
associate editors or editorial board members for several academic journals.
讲座摘要: Research facilitates new knowledge exploration, discovery, and explanation. A major activity
of faculty members at research oriented higher education institutions is research. Research is a
process of creating knowledge and teaching is a process of passing knowledge from teachers to
students. Faulty and graduate students usually have freedom in selecting their research topics.
General and specific criteria for selecting research topics are discussed. Methods for finding
research topics are presented. Topic refinement methods such as expanding or narrowing research
topics are also discussed.
