内容摘 要:In the review, recent studies of the structure, properties and applications of oxide glasses will be described. Borate- based glasses have been shown to rapidly convert to bio-compatible hydroxyapatite when exposed to a biological environment and are under development for biomedical applications. The nature of these reactions and the development of borate glasses with desired physical and chemical properties will be reviewed. Phosphate glasses have been developed for a variety of applications, including environmentally stable hosts for radioactive wastes and as specialty optical glasses for f-sec laser applications. Studies of the structures of phosphate glasses, including phosphate anion distributions and cation coordination numbers, will be reviewed and that information used to design new glass compositions. Silicate glasses and glass-ceramics have been designed for a variety of sealing applications, including hermetic seals for solid oxide fuel cells and enamels for reinforcing steels. The chemical interactions that occur between the glasses and metals will be described and used to predict the long-term stability of these seals. Finally, the effects of aging and fatigue on the failure characteristics of commercial glasses, including fiber, container, and optical compositions, will described using information obtained by a two-point bend technique.
